Perform the Image
A hand, a posture, a slightly misplaced prop: small decisions can change everything an image seems to say.

The experience
Explore photography and performance through staged situations, gestures and visual metaphors. Prompts may involve expressing a mood through a fragment of the body, giving a familiar phrase a physical form, or staging a recognisable stock photograph with an awkward interruption. Making the image becomes a way to examine its assumptions.
The session welcomes non-artists and finishes with shared viewing, discussion or presentation. It is an invitation to experiment with how images construct meaning. Consult the booking option for the exercises and practical requirements of your session.
Work directly with the artist
maansi jain is a Berlin-based conceptual artist who has guest lectured at New York University (NYU Tandon and NYU Steinhardt) and brings more than two decades of teaching experience to every session. She works across photography, text, sculpture, works on paper and performance. These studio experiences extend an artistic inquiry into perception: how an instruction, an image or a material can change the way we understand what is in front of us.
